    The forgetting curve

    Why Spacing Works

Hermann Ebbinghaus found that we forget new learning fast. This is called the forgetting curve. Each time you review, you remember more and forget more slowly.

    Reviews:
    No review:
    With reviews:
No review: most of it is gone in a few days With reviews 1 to 4: the memory lasts longer each time

The curves show the idea. They are not real data.

    Frequently Asked Questions

It means looking at a topic again at set times: the next day, the day after, a week later and a month later. Each review is short. Each one helps the memory last longer, so you need less cramming before the exam.

Close your notes. Write or say everything you remember about the topic. Then open your notes and check. Fix anything you missed or got wrong. For Maths, do two or three questions from the topic instead of writing notes.

It is a quick brain dump when you get home. Write the keywords from each class you had that day, without looking at your notes. It is different from the topic reviews in My Topics, which you do during Revision time.

Do it as soon as you can, then carry on. The tracker marks missed reviews as Late and puts them at the top of Due today, so you can catch up first. Missing one review does not undo your work.

Yes. The page starts with an example for a 5th Year student. Click Edit my week to change times and activities, add or remove subjects in the 3-week plan, and clear the example rows in My Topics. It works for 6th Year and Junior Cycle too.
