You will read four short passages: a school notice, a workplace policy, a news report and a club rulebook. After each one, you will judge three statements as True, False or Cannot Say.
One rule matters more than any other: judge each statement using only what the passage says. If the passage does not give you enough information either way, the answer is Cannot Say, even if you happen to know (or suspect) the answer from everyday life. Bringing in outside knowledge is the classic trap in tests like this.

Passage 1: School notice
Auditions for this year's school musical will take place in the assembly hall on Thursday 24 September, starting at 3.45pm. Auditions are open to all students from 2nd Year upwards. Students who wish to audition must sign the sheet outside the music room by Tuesday 22 September. Everyone auditioning should prepare one song of their own choice; sheet music will be provided to the accompanist on the day. Students interested in backstage roles do not need to audition, but should attend the information meeting on Friday 25 September at lunchtime. Rehearsals will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school until the end of November.
Passage 2: Workplace policy, Riverside Café
Staff at Riverside Café are paid fortnightly by bank transfer. Employees under 18 may not work later than 10pm on any night, and may not be rostered for more than two shifts in a school week. All staff receive a 30-minute unpaid break on shifts of six hours or longer. Requests for time off must be submitted to the duty manager at least ten days in advance. Swapping shifts is permitted only when both employees agree and the duty manager approves the swap in writing. Staff who arrive more than fifteen minutes late on three occasions in one month will be invited to a meeting with the owner.
Passage 3: News report
A new report on cycling in Irish towns has found that the number of secondary students cycling to school has risen by 40 per cent over the past five years, though it remains well below the levels recorded in the 1980s. The report links the increase to the roll-out of protected cycle lanes near schools, noting that towns which installed such lanes saw the largest gains. However, the authors caution that growth has been uneven: in several towns, student cycling numbers have not changed at all. The report recommends that funding for cycle lanes near schools be doubled over the next three years.
Passage 4: Club rulebook extract
Members of the athletics club must renew their membership by 31 January each year. Members who renew after this date pay a late fee of €10, and members whose renewal is more than sixty days late must reapply as new members. Juvenile members, defined as those under 16 on 1 January, must have a parent or guardian named on their membership form. Club singlets must be worn at all county and national competitions; at local open meets, plain running gear is permitted. Only fully paid-up members may represent the club in competition, and no exceptions to this rule are made.
